Amid the pandemic outbreak, all shoots came to a halt which is the main source of income for most photographers, including myself. As gleam as it may seem, but it is pretty much like a “double-edged sword”. While shoots are at a halt for months, I get to upgrade myself on the various aspect. At the same time, I get to re-evaluate, what it truly means, to photograph.
As technology advances, almost everyone has a camera with them - the mobile phone with an in-built camera, and anyone can just snap a photo anytime, anywhere. But how often, do we realize or thought of the meaning behind the photo? And how often, do we look deeper into our thoughts, feelings, and emotions evoked by the photo, even when we are aware of their presence?
All of us have personal psychological and emotional reactions to photos, the conscious, subconscious, and unconscious reactions. However, we tend to overlook the deeper meanings, memories, thoughts, and feelings we perceive. The bonds and the time spent together with one another that we may have taken for granted during the “old normal”, which can be something as simple as catching up over a cuppa.
Food for thoughts:
How would it be like, if we have photos that not only encapsulates the different stages of our milestones, but also our close ones, and as well as the time we spent together with one another – preserving the heartfelt moments amid the myriad of interactions?
When the photo was being taken, it may or may not have a significant meaning there and then. But months later or a year later, what would be the meaning that the photo hold, and what would your psychological and emotional reactions be?
